The first thing you see when you walk into our home is our engagement photos. Our big smiles show how excited and in-love we were in the moment, which is an accurate reflection of our feelings as a couple and does a great job of telling our story. The space is cozy and warm, and it just feels like a home. Designing a space that tells your story is about incorporating such elements and creating an environment that reflects your personality, experiences, and values.
Here’s how you can design your own little slice of home:
Define Your Story
Before making any design choices, take a moment to reflect on your life experiences, values, and interests. What parts of your journey do you want to highlight? Maybe it’s your cultural background, your love for art, or a collection of memories from your travels. Having a clear vision will help you curate pieces that truly resonate with you.

Incorporate Meaningful Pieces
The best way to make your space feel personal is by including items that hold sentimental value. You can do this in a few ways. Display artwork & photos that remind you of special moments or places. You can also incorporate keepsakes or items that you’ve had for a long time. Another way to do this is to showcase books that the way you think or represent your interests.

Use Color Psychology
Colors evoke emotions and play a big role in how a space feels. Soft colors create a calm and inviting atmosphere while bold colors add energy and make a statement. Dark, deep colors on the other hand are moody and add a sophisticated vibe to a space. Consider using colors tied to your memories or personal interests. For example, our living room is bright and colorful because we are energetic people that like to have fun.

Textures & Materials
Textures and materials can add depth and history to a home. Wood, especially reclaimed wood, adds warmth and character. Marble or metal adds luxury and refinement. Woven fabrics and linens provide a cozy, homey feel.

Layer Personal Touches
Small details can make a big impact in creating a home that feels uniquely yours. A good way to do this is through scents, sounds, and handmade elements. Candles, oils, or fresh flowers can bring scent into your home and evoke memories and emotions. Music always makes us feel something, and setting the mood with a curated playlist or soothing background songs is the perfect way to make your home feel the way you want it to. Handmade elements such as DIY projects or even furniture you’ve refined can add a sense of authenticity.

Create a Focal Point
Choose an area in your home that you want to tell the main story. This could be a gallery wall with framed photos, a statement piece, or a bookshelf filled with meaningful objects and books. Let this focal point be a conversation starter and a visual representation of your story.
By thoughtfully curating your space, you create an environment that not only looks beautiful but also feels like home. Your home should be your sanctuary. It should reflect your journey and your personality. After all, your home isn’t just where you live - it’s where your story unfolds. What story will your home tell?
